WELCOME TO JEFFREY B. DOLBARE LIBRARY!

 

The mission of the Jeffrey B. Dolbare Memorial Library and its library media program is to support the curriculum of Fruitdale High School, and as part of that mission provide access to current, adequate, and appropriate information resources, and to ensure that all students, teachers, and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

 

 

 

Library Hours

 

 

 

 The library is open Monday through Friday from

 

 8:05 to 2:30 each day. 

Extended hours are available when requested.

 

 

 

The library is closed during testing, tutorials, and administrative events. 

 

 

Students may come to the library with a pass anytime during school hours--as often as needed to complete projects or check out books.  In addition, teachers may reserve the library for special lessons and activities.

How many books are students allowed to check-out?

 

Students are allowed to have two books checked out from the library collection. 

 

 

 

What about lost or overdue books?

 

Students may not check out any books if they have an overdue or a lost or damaged book that has not been paid for.  Once the books have been returned or paid for checkout privileges are immediately restored.

 

 

 

What are the charges for an overdue, lost, or damaged book?

 

Students are not charged fees for overdue books.  The charge for a lost or damaged book is determined by the average cost of a library book as published yearly by the American Library Association. 

 

 

 

 Library Policies

 

 

 

Collection Development Policy

 

The Board generally shall rely on its professional staff to select and acquire instructional resources that:

 

 1.  Enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration students' varied interests, abilities, learning styles, and maturity levels.

 

 2.  Stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and societal standards.

 

 3.  Present various sides of controversial issues so that students have an opportunity to develop, under guidance, skills in critical analysis and in making informed judgements in their daily lives.

 

 4.  Represent many religious, ethnic, and cultural groups and their contributions to the national heritage and world community. 

 

 

 

Reconsideration Policy:

 

 The school receiving a complaint about the appropriateness of an instructional resource shall try to resolve the matter informally using the following procedure:

 

1.  The principal or other knowledgeable professional staff shall explain the school's selection process, the criteria for selection, and the qualifications of the professional staff who selected the questioned material.

 

 2.  The principal or other knowledgeable professional staff shall explain the role the questioned material plays in the education program, its intended educational usefulness, and any additional information regarding its use. 

 

 3.  If the questioner wishes to make a formal challenge, the principal shall hand deliver or mail a copy of this policy and a Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials form to the concerned party. 

 

 

 

Weeding Policy

 

Weeding is the process of withdrawing obsolete, out-of-date, worn or unsuitable materials from the library media collection.  Weeding is an ongoing process that helps to keep the collection current and to meet the needs of the students and faculty.  An item that is no longer current or books that represent sexist or gender discrimination, and worn/damaged materials will be weeded.
